Beginners guide for Nag tibba trek

Nag Tibba is a popular winter trek located in Uttarakhand and is at an altitude of 3048 feet above sea level. Climatic conditions of Nag Tibba vary from plains to hilly areas. This being a small trek is a perfect destination for beginners and novice individuals for Himalayan Treks.

Overview

You can reach Dehradun via train or a bus from Delhi. It is a 16 kilometers trek taking at least 2 days to complete. On the first day, you must reach Nag Tibba base camp that is around 5 kilometers from Pantwari village, the base village. You must also do some physical activities like stretching so as to get ready for the next day trekking that would be a bit long. Now on the next day, it’s time for the trek to the summit of Nag Tibba.

What you must know before trekking to Nag Tibba?

Nag Tibba is an ideal location for beginners considering the number of days and altitude of the summit. Keep your luggage minimum in order to make your trekking a hassle free one. But there are some essential things to carry beforehand for trekking like sleeping bags, water bottles, microspikes, trekking poles, the first aid kit, some warm clothes etc. Before the trek it is advisable to consult a physician in order to know your physical fitness for the trek.

Travel details

If you are staying in Delhi, then you must reach Dehradun by morning. So this can become easy if you plan this trek on the weekend. So you can start from your home on Friday night and travel to reach Dehradun by Saturday morning. Now that you have reached Dehradun, you must drive towards Pantwari village via Mussoorie.  Pantwari village, which is the base village of Nag Tibba, takes 4 hours to reach from Dehradun. You can choose to take a halt in Kempty halls for breakfast. Then reach Pantwari via Nainbagh. At Pantwari you can freshen up and have a nice dinner. Then start your first leg to the trek of Nag Tibba in order to reach the Nag Tibba base camp.

From Pantwari to Base Camp

This trail is relatively small and easy as compared to the next day. It is a 5 kilometers trek with dwarfed hills and  vast valleys. There are numerous habitats studded on the hillside, that provides you the experience of village life. After the trek in the afternoon the base camp gives you the much needed refreshment and you can just relax and enjoy nature. Then on the camp you must take some time to acclimate yourself and spend quality time with nature.

From Nag Tibba base camp to Nag Tibba Summit

The next day, day 2, will be the actual day of trekking. This day of trekking is a bit long one as you must be trekking for about 10 kilometers towards the summit and another 10 kilometers down from the summit. So you must make yourself ready for this challenging experience of the trek. However, this trek is of moderate to difficult level as compared to other Himalayan Treks. So if you are a beginner then this can be a good start in order to boost your morale for trekking in future.

Today’s trail will be  very beautiful with the mountain ranges and dense forests with rhododendrons. Wake up early in the morning in order to witness the majestic sunrise from Nag Tibba Summit. So you can start from the camp at around 4am. As the trail passes you will slowly get to see nature’s beauty and enjoy the soothing sounds of it via the chirping of birds.

Water being a scarce resource in the hilly region especially when there is snow, you must conserve it carefully. Since the trekking site is in a high altitude region, you may not feel the thirst. But it is essential to hydrate yourself every time in the Himalayan Treks. After reaching the summit of Nag Tibba, you will witness the stunning views of Himalayan ranges like Bandarpoonch, Swarga Rohini, Gangotri and Kedarnath.

After this precious moment is done, you need to descend from the peak in order to go back to Pantwari village again. In the midst you can also plan a lunch in the nearby areas of the village. You can drive back to Dehradun via the bus or a train with a bagful of memories of the summit, along with a nice experience one camping. So make sure you do not miss this wonder of the trek to Nag Tibba.
